Malibu, CA, May 23, 2006 - The Malibu Chapter of the Surfrider Foundation is proud to announce its tenth-annual “Making Waves” Gala fundraiser featuring the benefit world premiere of monterey media’s Peel: The Peru Project Saturday, June 10, 2006. The Gala will be held from 5:30-11:00pm at the beautiful, oceanfront Sunset Restaurant on Malibu’s Westward Beach. The annual “Making Waves” Gala is a rich part of Malibu’s surfing culture where the surf industry and environmentalist come together to support and share in a great cause.
The Gala raises crucial funds that enable the Malibu Chapter to continue its 22-year mission protecting and preserving the beaches and waves from Marina Del Ray to the Los Angeles/Ventura County Line.
The Making Waves Galas is renown for top-notch entertainment, a diverse silent auction, and an amazing dinner. This year’s Gala will hold true to tradition! Thanks to the generosity of monterey media, dinner will feature an exclusive benefit premiere of “Peel”, the newest film from the family that made surf-film history. From Bruce Brown’s “The Endless Summer”, to his son Dana’s “Step Into Liquid”, “Peel” represents the third generation of the Brown family’s legendary surf filmmaking as Wes Brown, and partner T.J. Barrack will take Gala guests on-location to the beautiful waters of Peru where surfing is a way of life and surfers are worshipped as National Heroes.
This highly anticipated event will feature a full night of music and dancing with surprise performances always a possibility. Attendees of past Galas have been treated to the likes of Jack Johnson, Jackson Brown, The White Buffalo and Kate Earl.
The Gala’s silent auction will feature memorabilia, collectibles and unique artwork, from local artisans including a special piece by Laddie Dill. Plus a custom longboard shaped by surfing legend Lance Carson will be the grand prize raffle item.
In addition to promoting the Malibu Chapter’s many years of dedicated volunteer work restoring clean water to Malibu, this year’s proceed will help fund the Chapter’s on going Tidepool Awareness program, and new programs that including the Watershed Education Program, the Quick Response Pollution Control Program and much more.
Tickets for this year’s Making Waves Gala are $200, $380 for couples and $1,750 for a table of 10.
