North Shore Picks Up: Peel: The Peru Project

October 4, 2006- THOUSAND OAKS, CA What would one of the most elite surfing competitions be without a screening of monterey media’s newest surfing classic, Peel: the Peru Project? The Surfrider of Oahu and the Waialua Community Association of the North Shore asked themselves the same question and are bringing this motion picture to their island the same week as the North Shore Triple Crown, an event that will bring world-class surfers, from beaches all over the world, to local waves. Two screenings of the film will be held in Oahu on Thursday, November 9th at 7:00pm and 9:00pm, general admission is only $5, at the historic Haleiwa Gym.

The Waialua Community Association, also sponsors of the OP North Shore Kick Off for the Triple Crown, and the Surfrider of Oahu will be fundraising for their non-profit organizations with a screening of the movie that has the surfing world talking. Reminiscent of the patriarch of surf films, Bruce Brown’s The Endless Summer, Peel: the Peru Project, directed by Brown’s grandson Wes Brown and partner TJ Barrack, resets the standard for modern surf films.

Mark Healey (from Islands in the Stream), Jamie Sterling (Billabong XXL Big Wave Award winner), Women’s World Champion Sofia Mulanovich, Jesse Colombo (One of the new breed of “Air” surfers) and Randy Bonds (from The Kill Seven and Punk and Disorderly) are the featured surfers along with “the Teacher” of Peruvian surf: Magoo de la Rosa, the seven time national champion of Peru. The soundtrack of “Peel” includes music by the immensely popular Danish band SURFACT.

Peel: the Peru Project is now available on DVD, for more information, click here. It is being said, this film is a, “must-have” for adventure seekers, surfers, culture-mongers and lovers of nature.
