Legendary Surf Homecoming
September 6, 2006, THOUSAND OAKS, CA- Wilson High School is having a homecoming September 23rd. Not your ordinary homecoming event, there will be no football game and no dance, but it will be the return of a legendary surf filmmaker and his legacy.
Bruce Brown, a Wilson High School alumnus, held the first theatrical screening of his legendary surf odyssey, The Endless Summer at his Alma Mater and now, over 40 years later, monterey media is overjoyed to present the new surfing odyssey, Peel: the Peru Project, by Brown’s grandson, Wes Brown and co-writer/director T.J. Barrack, to the very location that kicked off surf film history.
Honoring Bruce with a Lifetime Achievement Award, the Surfrider Foundation, Long Beach Chapter and the Wilson High School Surf Team is delighted Bruce will attend to accept the award in person. Many donated items will be raffled to fundraise for these two groups, including a Peel surfboard especially shaped by renowned Central Coast Shaper Shane Stoneman and autographed by directors T.J. Barrack and Wes Brown.
Peel: the Peru Project features world class surfers such as Mark Healey (from Islands in the Stream), Jamie Sterling (Billabong XXL Big Wave Award winner), Women’s World Champion Sofia Mulanovich, Jesse Colombo (One of the new breed of “Air” surfers), Randy Bonds (from The Kill Seven and Punk and Disorderly) and Magoo de la Rosa (seven time national champion of Peru). The soundtrack of “Peel” includes music by the immensely popular Danish band SURFACT.
This benefit-event screening will be held in the Wilson High School auditorium, located at 4400 E. 10th Street. Proceeds will help benefit the Surfrider Foundation, Long Beach Chapter, an organization dedicated to cleaning the beaches and waters in the Long Beach region as well as the Wilson High School Surf Team. The Long Beach Surfrider Foundation will be hosting a raffle, with the main giveaway being the autographed surfboard.
Throughout the summer and during its theatrical run, monterey media has partnered with chapters of the Surfrider Foundation and has strategic marketing alliances with Surfing Magazine and Surfline.com to utilize Peel in heightening environmental awareness- a topic that is very important to many residents of the environmentally conscious Long Beach region.
Tickets for the Long Beach event will be $10 for general admission and $5 with a student ID. Available online here, use the promotional code STU for the student price- but a valid student ID must be shown at the door with the ticket. With exciting bonus features, Peel will be released on DVD on September 26th and will be available online at www.montereymedia.com.

“Peel is classic Brown family filmmaking with a modern twist. Wes Brown and T.J. Barrack seem to have channeled the adventurous and insightful spirit of the Endless Summer with added high-performance surfing.”
