Word is Out: Peel: the Peru Project Proves:
The Apple Does Not Fall Far From the Tree
September 25, 2006- THOUSAND OAKS, CA Saturday, September 23rd, monterey media, the Surfrider Foundation, Long Beach Chapter and the Surf Team of Wilson High School joined together for a spectacular surfing experience. Surf movie patriarch, Bruce Brown, The Endless Summer, was the guest of honor, receiving a Lifetime Achievement Award presented by his son, also a surf filmmaker, Dana Brown (Step Into Liquid). The genesis for this occasion was to celebrate another member of the Brown family making waves in the surf film world, Wes Brown, son of Dana, with a screening of his newest film with co-director TJ Barrack, Peel: the Peru Project.
After presenting Bruce with the Lifetime Achievement Award, Bruce and Dana mingled with the crowd of five hundred in the Furjanick & Sandberg auditorium of Wilson High School. It must have been a familiar sight for Bruce; this was the very location of the first screening of his legendary surf film, The Endless Summer and his alma mater. Generously signing autographs for all who approached and participating in the raffle of a custom shaped surfboard by Central Coast Shaper Shane Stoneman and autographed by TJ Barrack and Wes Brown, Bruce and Dana could not have been more proud.
Those who attended the screening left with new appreciation: the apple does not fall far from the tree, Peel: the Peru Project will be proudly distributed along with the other Brown family surf films on DVD by monterey video. Featuring world-class surfers such Mark Healey (from Islands in the Stream), Jamie Sterling (Billabong XXL Big Wave Award winner), Women’s World Champion Sofia Mulanovich, Jesse Colombo (One of the new breed of “Air” surfers), Randy Bonds (from The Kill Seven and Punk and Disorderly) and Magoo de la Rosa (seven time national champion of Peru). The soundtrack of “Peel” includes music by the immensely popular Danish band SURFACT.
Bring Peel into your home this week! Peel: the Peru Project will be available for purchase September 26th.

“Peel is classic Brown family filmmaking with a modern twist. Wes Brown and T.J. Barrack seem to have channeled the adventurous and insightful spirit of the Endless Summer with added high-performance surfing.”
